A five-piece rounded out by bassist Darren Baun, drummer Nicholas Bobotas, and guitarist Coleman Pruitt, the band’s debut album, Chameleon, captures their evolving sound at an apex of majestic devastation. A fusion of downer hooks, gauzy melancholia, and bulldozer riffs, the album heaves and crashes across 50 minutes of stacked amplifier alchemy. Lyrically the songs trace similarly lofty and brooding terrain; Avila says “The theme is death. And a chameleon, like death, can shape-shift in and out our lives in different forms.”

Chameleon opens with "Ember,” dreamy and distant, alternately anthemic and apocalyptic, defeated and deafening. Lead single "Bishop" perfectly encapsulates trauma ray’s depth and dimension, ripping out of the gate with “the biggest, baddest, saddest wall of sound.” Lyrics about being burnt at the stake and "tossed in the flame" float above a stop-start assault of precision distortion, eventually expanding into a lush, heavy, sorrowful end coda. "Spectre" is a mysterious, introspective dirge, envisioned as a "mellow, slowcore, Duster-thing," all feeling and heavy fuzz chords (with no lead guitar). Avila wrote it, "to be a hymnal" from the perspective of someone who won't let go - a ghost, an ex, a shadow self.

Although the album is rich with subtleties, graceful lulls, and "breaths of air," the band’s three guitar attack is its defining force, a power flexed to its peak on "Bardo." Perez’s intentions were blunt: “I wanted to write a riff that was hard as fuck.” The result is alternately mean and eerie, veering between noisy one string bends and surging headbang, mapping a middle ground between Unwound and early-Deftones. One of trauma ray’s greatest gifts is their ability to make doomy, sledgehammer heaviness sound like an earworm, without production tricks or gimmicks: “Riff, verse, chorus, three guitar parts – that’s all you need.” This quality is particularly apparent on the title track, a churning slab of amplifier worship, swirling chords, and heavenly, defeated vocals about not belonging, shape-shifting, and death (“A twisted face / Void of attention / An empty space / In your reflection”).

“U.S.D.D.O.S” closes the album, swaying across seven minutes of grey skied guitar and haunted voice, subtly thickening as it deepens. Feedback and shrapnel gradually begin raining down, like a satellite disintegrating in the atmosphere. Titled as an acronym after a poem by Chilean writer Roberto Bolaño that loosely translates to “a dream within a dream,” the melody softens, smears, and then disappears, slowly swallowed by the gravity of eternal descent. Chameleon is a masterpiece of craft, balance, melody, lyricism, and gravity, flexing a fresh vision of loud-quiet-loud architectures and the vertigo depths of blasted harmonics. From Slowdive to Nothing, to Hum and beyond, the band absorb and expand on their influences into a rare and dedicated alchemy. trauma ray's cinematic tempest is a gathering storm only just taking flight.

TRACKLISTING

1. After an upstate New York evening spent with Closed Casket Activities owner Justin Louden, the group agreed upon a deal to work together with the label on their next LP. Initially setting out to test the waters with a four-song EP, Cloakroom booked three days at the famed Electrical Audio studio in Chicago in December of 2023 and set out to write a batch of new material. The composing sessions between singer/guitar player Doyle Martin and bass player Bobby Markos proved more fruitful than expected though, and soon the band was faced with the dilemma of picking which songs to include on an abbreviated release and which to save for the future long play.

No doubt inspired by their hectic touring schedules, Cloakroom decided to set out on tracking an entire LP in the three days of booked studio time while on the way to Chicago. After a few long nights of rehearsing and writing with drummer Timothy Remis, the group entered the house that Albini built with longtime collaborator and engineer Zac Montez to begin tracking the ten song effort. Through a rigorous work schedule over the next 72 hours, the band was able to capture the skeleton of the album before driving to Kalamazoo, Michigan and Fort Wayne, Indiana for a couple of end of the year gigs. The band would round out the week by spending some time at Rec Room Studios in Palos Hills, Illinois to lay down some overdubs and further complete the record.

“Last Leg of the Human Table” is not a post-apocalyptic record or a work of science fiction like Cloakroom’s previous LP. If Dissolution Wave was a space western following an asteroid miner protagonist, Last Leg brings the observer back to Earth where most things are not as they’re cracked up to be. For Cloakroom the world of modernity is in polycrisis and America has lost its soul. Narrative fetishism is all too usual of a literary mechanism for Cloakroom. If you listen closely you can hear the concern; not just for the teetering social structure but for what it means to be human and the high cost of the human experience.

T.S Eliot’s ominous “not with a bang but a whimper” has gotten a lot of traction in a post-pandemic world, maybe even too much one could say. That whimper is just tinnitus to Cloakroom; here is the sound of a furnace that can’t stop running. That tonal resonance plays in-between songs on Volume 4 of the band’s discography. Recorded at Chicago’s staple Electrical Audio, there could not be more of a hallowed space to capture this body of work.

Every song is a different sound working together to showcase Cloakroom’s genre-bending capabilities and seemingly vast array of influences; whether it be the sampling of the post-disco Detroit group Was (Not Was) or the lifted NASA recording of the humming of Saturn’s rings. Engineer Zac Montez (Whirr, Turnover) whom the band has referred to as an integral part of the band once again aided in smoothing out the rough parts and turning up the quiet.

The album is truly sonically inspiring. Shoegaze, doom, post-punk, folk just scratch the surface on the band’s shortest yet seemingly most substantial release to date. “Last Leg of the Human Table” can sound sardonic in its nature and it probably is, but this group has always found some wonder in the scurrying chaos of modern life. In 37 minutes, the album almost imbues a sense of responsibility to the listener as if one leg were to falter the whole table will fall.

Vinyl comes packaged in a DJ style jacket with UV spot varnish, obi strip and a translucent lyric sheet

<span style="font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'San Francisco', 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif; At one point, the troupe traveled from Chicago to Salt Lake City and back in a mere six days, playing six shows in the process and traveling no less than 600 miles a day. As the calendar flipped to 2024, Cloakroom launched on their most ambitious schedule to date, playing 27 shows across Europe in just over four weeks time. While this is being written, the band is resting their bones after a 34 date North American run that was completed in 37 days.

By their own standards, their new album ‘Last Leg of the Human Table’ is a couple of years early.

Track Listing

1- The Pilot
2- Ester Wind
3- On Joy and Unbelieving
4- Unbelonging
5- The Lights Are On
6- Bad Larry
7- The Story of the Egg
8- On Joy and Undeserving
9- Cloverlooper
10- Turbine Song

🚛 - In Stock & Shipping

When you hear music like this—the wild, loose and woozy drags of guitar; the impossible beauty of it all—what kind of landscape presents itself in your mind? The first single “Julia’s War” has been road-tested across a recent sold out US tour, as well as at UK festivals including Green Man, and we can attest that it’s a ginormous singalong anthem and one which marks The Next Phase of New American Shoegaze (~ Third Man Records).

Hotline TNT have toured relentlessly, including US-wide tours with Wednesday and Snail Mail, enduring seemingly endless lineup shifts to become a linchpin of several interconnecting DIY scenes. Hartzman again brought demos to the studio, where she and her bandmates—Xandy Chelmis (lap steel, pedal steel), Alan Miller (drums), Ethan Baechtold (bass, piano), and Jake “M.J.” Lenderman (guitar)—worked as a team to bulk-up the compositions with the exact right amounts of country truth-telling, indie-pop hooks, and noisy sludge. More than ever, the precise proportions were steered by the lyricism—not only its tone or subject matter, but also the actual sound of the words, as well as Hartzman’s masterfully subjective approach to detail selection. Every image or scene is filtered through Hartzman’s agile, writerly brain. Not only is this the Hudson Valley, NY-based band’s spankin’ new release at a new home, it’s a snapshot of a band during exponential growth– musically, artistically and most importantly in maturity. When the alt-hard rock favorites took the world, and live stages, by storm in the wake of their critically loved and popular 2022 debut Feel it All Around, fans cherished the band’s take on 90s alternative in droves. Now with a new sound and a new lease on life, Soul Blind might be utterly unrecognisable from their previous selves. That is until that unmistakable curtain of guitars starts to engulf like molten hot magma, coupled with subterranean melodies that apply a white-knuckle grip around the throat and don’t let go. In the best way, naturally.

The first taste of Soul Blind’s new reign starts with “Hide Your Evil,” the band’s lead off single and the first track written for the record right after signing with Closed Casket. The breakout success of Chameleon, their 2024 debut on Dais Records, further established the band amidst the current wave of shoegaze revivalists, yet increasingly agile, able to weave between scenes, touring throughout 2025 with the likes of Deaf heaven, Loathe, and Touché Amoré. A confluence of blitzing riffs and stark beauty, their sound continues to evolve, nodding to loud-quiet-loud greats across metal, grunge, and shoegaze from Slowdive to Smashing Pumpkins. Carnival delves into moodier, more cerebral material, like holding their past excursions against a funhouse mirror. There's a distinct sense of unease in these songs, built as a band in a fleeting window of time, proving they work best under pressure and when pulling from the darkest corners of their subconscious. The wordless "Carousel" ushers in the EP's unsettling atmosphere with blasts of static and downcast strums giving way to "Hannibal", an anthemic track packed with power riffs and raw emotion. The band has hit this kind of sheer power before, from 2018's "Solstice" to Chameleon's title track, while "Hannibal" contorts with a tinge of unprecedented evil, slithery, "Stone Temple-y, Alice in Chains-y," Avilaquips. Lyrically, he taps into teenage angst, the feeling of being dissected and rejected.

"Méliès", named after the French illusionist and filmmaker cuts between heavy, sludgy chords and a skyward chorus, "from something scary to like a dream state," says Avila, who channels the namesake's surreal abstraction. His lines detail, "being stuck in your head and just making up realities that probably aren't the real thing going on, when you don't want to face the truth. “Funhouse" dips into doom metal, with sparse guitarwork and possibly the band's slowest ever BPM, as self-proclaimed Sleep-heads. Lyrics play with shifting perspectives, culminating in the call-and-response outro ("take my hand / this is not your wonderland")that conjures two forces, or frames of mind, at odds with one another. In contrast, the final track "Clown" jolts, flashes, and pummels, like the listener has come out the other end of a house of horrors, now fully immersed in the jarring, disorienting lights of the carnival. Personified by a knotty, synthy lead guitar squal—"the lead tone is something I'm super proud of, we've never had something like that in a trauma ray song," per Perez—"Clown" reminds them of Robin Williams, an archetype of tragic happiness, how the people trying the hardest to make others laugh may privately be the saddest. Sonically, the band is quick to credit the influence of “Undone” and “Stuck on You” by '90s cult favorite Failure, alongside the omnipresent Loveless, which gets to the greatness of trauma ray: five musicians absorbing, synthesising, and expanding on what they love. Carnival offers a brief and highly loopable detour into darkness from a band growing more formidable by the mile.

TRACKLIST:
SIDE A:
1. carousel
2. Since their inception, the Lafayette, Louisiana, four-piece has built a buzz around their underlying heaviness that drives both their ambition and impact, quickly embedding themselves in the national DIY circuit, while remaining true to their Cajun roots. Sharing stages with genre titans like Dinosaur Jr., Whirr, Nothing, and Narrow Head, Cashier are building a reputation for a massive sound that resonates far beyond their bayou home. Early singles established the band’s ability to unite grunge, shoegaze, post-hardcore, and indie rock heads alike, lacing dissonance with undeniable melodic hooks. Bandleader Kylie Gaspard’s deeply direct vocal delivery cuts through dense riffs, grounding their songs with her gritty, emotional lyrics. That sound reaches full definition on The Weight, Cashier’s debut EP, which captures the band’s most precise songs yet. Peeling back some layers of dissonance to reveal more vibrant and clear tones, the four-piece adopted a laser-focused approach to songwriting and arrangement that made every chord count. Recorded entirely in their hometown at producer Chad Viator’s home studio, the songs distill themes of desire, insecurity, and disconnection into five tightly wound, melody-driven songs. Ultimately, Cashier’s search for serenity arrives at a sobering awareness: The Weight is something we all carry, and there’s no turning back once you’ve made your choices in this life. Everyone bears their own baggage, but Cashier give meaning to the shared impulse to set it down, even when you know relief is out of reach.

TRACKLISTING
1. Whilst ‘Cartwheel’ was largely conceived by the band’s frontman Will Anderson (previously of cult indie group Weed), ‘Raspberry Moon’ is very much a full-band effort, which is evident in the album’s all-consuming, rip-roaring sound.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0691/9494/0689/files/hotlinetnt_30e82b9f-574a-42f9-8684-263755e0c099.png?v=1773742361
failure-location-lost-lp
Failure 'Location Lost' LP

🚛 -In Stock & Shipping

Influential shoegaze pioneers, Failure, return after a half-decade with their seventh studio album, Location Lost (Failure Records/Arduous/Virgin).
