In the purest form possible, raw shouted vocals and clean manic guitars fight for volume over roomy bass and percussion. Creating a sound that is shockingly simple as it is emotionally engaging. The serene and fragile opening notes of \"Tilde\" serve as the album's introductory serenade before Touche Amore pound and jangle into the hook-laden song. And seconds later, when vocalist\/lyricist Jeremy Bolm screams \"...I'm parting the sea between brightness and me...\", a tone of desperation sets in that resonates throughout the duration of the album. His straight forward cries convincingly tell his own personal story. To some, this lyrical writing could read as a diary based purely in self deprecation, but his words cut and pull from a much deeper place in the heart. Instead, Bolm's signature vocals flow in unison with Stevens and Steinhardt's creative, thoughtful guitar work, while the stellar rhythm section of Kirby and Babin provide a fervent punch to each song. Side A favorites like  \"Just Exist\" and \"DNA\" hit with a new intensity, while the lusciousness within \"Harbor\" feels more defined. The Side B tracks may benefit the most - the Interpol influence shines throughout \"Kerosene\", and the slow burn build on \"Non Fiction\" is heard with more definition than ever before. There is a new found sense of brightness throughout the album's twelve tracks without losing any of the character from the original recordings. The lessons Bolm has learned over the years were also applied to the remaster. \"I do feel a lot better about it,\" he says. “Everything kicks and everything pumps on this remix and remaster and I feel like 'Wow.' Tuch served as an engineer on the band’s 2018 single “Green.” Rickley and Jeff Eaton of MODERN LIFE IS WAR also rerecorded their guest appearances for the new version. “You might be asking ‘Why re-record this album?’ Mostly, it’s because we physically couldn’t remix and remaster the 2009 version due to all the files being lost when the hard drive containing them crashed,” the band’s Jeremy Bolm explained in a statement. “We also just loved the idea of [drummer Elliot Babin] and [bassist Tyler Kirby] getting to play on this album as they weren’t in the band at the time. We wanted the songs to sound like how we’ve been playing them these last bunch of years. Faster and with more energy.
