Four Hundred Years formed in 1996, emerging from the Tucson, Arizona hardcore scene before relocating to Richmond, Virginia. By the late ’90s, the four-piece of Daron Hollowell, Dave Jackson, Erin Housholder and Ash Bruce had developed a sound that pushed their hardcore roots into increasingly intricate and dynamic territory, balancing dissonance and aggression with melody and an intense political urgency.

That evolution came into focus on Transmit Failure. Written during a formative period for the band and recorded with J. Robbins at Inner Ear Studios in 1998, the album marked a significant leap forward – its tightly wound guitars, taut rhythm section and raw dual vocals capturing Four Hundred Years at the point where their political convictions, emotional intensity and musical experimentation fully converged. Released by Lovitt Records, Transmit Failure became a defining record for the band and a lasting document of the fiercely creative DIY hardcore community they were part of.

More than two decades later, that story is moving again. Revisiting the band’s past while opening a path toward something new, Four Hundred Years are bringing their music back into the present – beginning with newly remixed and remastered material and a renewed look at a body of work whose urgency has never entirely disappeared.
