SUPERBUCLE, the fourth LP by Madrid's Yawners, is a narrative circle, a succession of events. The last song takes you back to the first. A cycle that begins with "Un día genial (“A great day”) and ends with "Un día horrible" (“A horrible day"), followed again by “a great day.” And so the story that repeats itself: never-ending, but absolutely predictable.
The cycles of human nature are a recurring theme on SUPERBUCLE. On the single "Las horas pasan", Yawners converses with a past version of themselves, analysing who they thought they would be against who they have become. Later, on "1 de enero", Yawners mark the beginning of a new year by attempting to learn from past experiences, while knowing how easy it is to make the same mistakes again.
With SUPERBUCLE, Yawner's musical approach is different this time around. Over the course of two years, Yawner's singer/guitarist/composer/producer Elena Nieto carefully crafted a more serious and direct set of songs than ever before. Nieto brought new methods of production to her arrangements, weaving electronic elements and layered vocal harmonies into her signature brand of hook-filled pop punk. 11 of 12 songs on SUPERBUCLE are in Spanish. "Self-diagnose", the only song in English, came to Nieto one day during a nap, lyrics included.
